A season change

A season change

11 July 2019 by Andy Burns

Dear Friends,

I wanted to write to let you know that after 4 very happy years at Capital Mass, it’s time for a season change. I will be leaving the post of Executive Director at the end of the summer.

It has been my absolute pleasure to draw alongside, be inspired by and hopefully to be of help to such a Compassionate Diocese. The joy of the role is always the people and I never imagined that over 4 years I’d have had the privilege to hear so many stories and to see firsthand the huge impact made when the church loves their neighbour.

As many of you know over the past 2 years, it’s been a Pan-European adventure for me, with my family living in Barcelona and through the hospitality of easyJet, and been based in London during the week. What I’m moving onto, is a role at a British School in the town where we live, to implement a Wellbeing Strategy for both students and staff. I’ll be going back to my youth work roots a little older and hopefully wiser.

I want to thank the team of Angela, Alison and Chantal who have held the vision and applied it with such passion and dedication as well as topping me up with gallons of caffeine. I want to thank the Capital Mass Board for their continued support, encouragement and wise oversight. Finally, I want to thank Bishop Adrian who took a chance and employed me, held the framework which has enabled our work to flourish as well as being the role model I aspire to lead like.

Capital Mass remains at the heart of the plans of CV2030 and I look forward to seeing what shape that will take. I also look forward to hearing from afar about the continued impact that the followers of Christ make in this wonderful city.

So in closing, I want to thank you for not only welcoming in a Northerner more than that, a Northern Baptist into your community and;

  • If I’ve been of Good News to you. Then it has been my pleasure.

  • If I haven’t quite lived up to your expectations; well my wife empathises with you.

  • If we haven’t yet met, then that is my loss.

Go well and may you continue to be disturbed into action by our God of all Compassion

Andy Burns
