Unless the Lord Builds The House…
As Christians across London, we want to see a fairer, more just housing system in our city; where everyone has somewhere safe and stable to call home.
Sometimes that can feel too enormous to dream, and certainly too enormous to tackle. But we have a God ‘who is able to do more than we ask or imagine’ (Ephesians 3:20).
So we begin by asking.
We start in prayer.
And that’s why we’ve started a Housing Prayer Bulletin. It can be difficult to even know where to start. Some problems seem too big for us to do anything. But believing that “unless the Lord builds the house, it’s labourers labour in vain” (Psalm 127) - we want to ensure we continue to pray as we act and seek change.
Every couple of months we’ll send round short bullet point emails, with three or four specific things that we can pray for.
We hope it will guide us all to pray more specifically and and encourage others to. We hope churches will use it to inform their intercessions, and small groups may also use it.
This bulletin we are praying for those still suffering from the awful tragedy of Grenfell, on the 4th anniversary; Bishop Guli as she starts as Bishop for Housing; for those caught up in the cladding scandal; and for a local housing development seeking to serve the low income community in Hoxton.
If you didn’t receive it - you can find the first one here.
if you want to get the next one into your inbox you can sign up here.
- Finally, if you have any ideas of what we should be praying for, big or small, relating to housing or homelessness, please do get in touch here.
Let us pray together, partnering in this work of housing justice, and of the Gospel.
